The stories of an old weapons factory
The event starts with a cup of coffee at Taets on the Hembrug site. On this site you will also find the special Hembrug Museum . After the reception we will be given a tour of the monumental buildings of the old arms and ammunition factory on the site. Then it is time to get on your bike and set course for the Twiske nature reserve. We reach this area after cycling for about 9 kilometers. After the special cycling tour through the nature reserve, we cycle further into the historic center of Purmerend via the Melkwegbrug Purmerend . At the Koemarkt we take a break for something tasty at Brownies and Downies. Then we hear a story about the war and take a look at an exhibition about war vehicles.

Forts in the Beemster
From Purmerend we cycle into the vast Beemster. Along the dike you will find the Fort on the Middenweg, the Fort on the Jisperweg and the Fort at Spijkerboor. These forts are part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam , a defense line constructed at the beginning of the 19th century. At Fort Op Spijkerboor we are treated to a delicious lunch in beautiful historic surroundings. This fort is specially opened for us to take a look around.

The Zaanse Schans
We then cross the ring canal with a ferry and then set sail for Wormerveer and Zaandam. Along the way we pass numerous windmills on the Zaanse Schans, such as the De Kat paint mill. The miller of this mill tells more about the function of the mills during the war. The distillers of' Distillery De 2-headed Phoenix' are also ready here with a special drink: Tulip bulb vodka. Then we get on our bikes again, passing the windmills De Bonte Hen, Het Klaverblad, De Os, Het Jonge Schaap and Museum Oliemolen dezoeker.
