Fort aan de Middenweg

Fort on the Middenweg, together with the adjacent Fort on the Jisperweg, was the last to be added to the Defense Line of Amsterdam and the Noordfront. Both forts are located on the southern ring canal of the Beemsterpolder and they both form a protected nature reserve. The Noordhollandsch Kanaal runs behind the Fort on the Middenweg. The reinforced concrete fortress was built here at the end of the 19th century. Nowadays the fort is largely hidden between the greenery. The fort is equipped with a lifting turret and you will still find original artillery, machine gun positions, an iron removal installation for drinking water and original water pumps. The fort is not open to the public, but you can of course admire it from the outside.
