Melkwegbrug Purmerend

The Melkweg Bridge in Purmerend crosses the North Holland Canal. This bridge forms the connection between the old center of Purmerend and the new Weidevenne district. This bridge is an extension of the historic connection between Amsterdam and Purmerend. This connection is also called the Milky Way and that immediately explains the name of the bridge. The bridge consists of two parts: one part for cyclists and another part for pedestrians. One part of the bridge is movable, so that ships can easily pass under the bridge. From the high pedestrian area you can enjoy a beautiful view of both the old and the new city. The highest point of the bridge is about 12 meters high.
