Being active in the open air in a varied environment? Come and walk through the dunes and bulb fields at Noordwijkerhout. This is how you combine the pleasant with the useful, because walking is healthy!
Old dune landscape
Where you now walk along the bulb fields, there was once a small-scale mix of grasslands with hedgerows, dune fields and coppice fields. Not all of that original landscape has been excavated for flower cultivation. Between the park forest of Sancta Maria and the dunes you can still see how the area used to be here. Along the ditches you will see plants such as pondweed, whole leaves and sea green wall. From dune to bulb field
The walk also leads you through the dune edge. You step through a planted forest where it is remarkably quiet. When you walk out of the forest, you really notice the contrast between the subdued dune landscape and the brightly colored bulb fields. Much of the old dune landscape around Noordwijkerhout had to make way for bulb cultivation in the 1950s. Nice for the view during your walk, but birds such as partridge, yellow wagtail and skylark also benefit from it, they breed here in abundance. The route ends where it began: at the VVV Noordwijkerhout.
Taking 10,000 steps together
Japanese doctor Yoshiro Hatano researched how many steps you should take each day to stay healthy. He came up with a number of about 10,000 steps. This route, just like the routes 316764 and 316781, has been specially developed to let you take 10,000 steps in a fun way. You can of course walk these trails alone if you want, or with a few friends. But if you want to know more about how to lose weight responsibly, take a guided 10,000-step walk on a Saturday.
