Farmer's cheese route Zoeterwoude

Grab your bike and taste, experience and discover the beautiful, rural polders of Zoeterwoude. There is plenty to experience; you will pass old mills, butterfly gardens, local shops and visiting farms. Bees and butterflies
During this route you cycle through a rural area rich in water and nature with a colorful collection of flowers on the roadsides. Thanks to these flower ribbons, the polders are even more beautiful to look at and they are a true paradise for bees, butterflies and other insects. Nice is not it?

From swamp to farmer's cheese
Until the Middle Ages, the peat area around Zoeterwoude was swampy and marshy. Later, peat was excavated, ditches were dug and polders were drained. The combination of juicy grass, healthy cows and traditional cheese makers has been producing exceptionally tasty farm cheeses in Zoeterwoude for centuries.
