In the vicinity of Beverwijk you will find several beautiful country houses and castles that are worth seeing. This route takes you past some of these gems. Put on your walking shoes and imagine yourself in a bygone era at these historic buildings.
Estate Westerhout
Country estates are known, among other things, for their extensive gardens. During this walk you can enjoy all the natural beauty in these gardens and the beautiful buildings on these estates. Wealthy Amsterdam residents built summer residences in this area to escape the busy city in the summer. Let yourself be enchanted by all this wealth and the history of the area. You start your walk at Landgoed Westerhout, which dates from the early 17th century. Behind the country house you will find the park Westerhout. From here you walk through the woods to the Lunettenlinie of Beverwijk. These small fortifications were built in 1799.
Villa Beeckzangh
On the outskirts of Beverwijk you can then take a look at Akerendam, Villa Beeckzangh and Huize Scheybeeck. Villa Beeckzangh was founded in the 17th century as a bluing factory. Bluing was supplied to bleachers to whiten the yellow tones in paper and fabric, for example. At the end of 1800 the name of the house was changed.
Scheybeeck house
Huize Scheybeeck is close to Villa Beeckzangh with the associated park Scheybeeck. The park was created around 1620 and is named after the stream that flows from the dune area to the Beverwijk harbour. The park is about 5 hectares in size and was designated a national monument in 2002. So be sure to take a look here and enjoy all the beauty.
