Buitenplaats Akerendam

Visit the website
Akerendam is an estate on the outskirts of Beverwijk. The estate was created between 1636 and 1639 when an influential Amsterdam regent bought several pieces of land and had a country house built on it. The house and the accompanying garden were laid out in Renaissance style. In the mid-18th century, the house was rebuilt in the Louis XV style. The tea dome on this estate was built at the beginning of the 19th century. For most of the 20th century, the mansion was used as a home for old ladies. Since the 1970s, that function has changed into a cultural function. After 1980, a walled vegetable garden, an orangery, a barn and a greenhouse were built at the mansion.
