Haaksbergen, Overijssel, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 1868398
Provided by: Groots Genieten
From your starting point, you will first discover the heathland and forest area of the Witte Veen, which used to be a popular border crossing for smugglers. When you cross the Buurserbeek, you will pass the Haarmuhle, a 350-year-old water mill. Then cycle to Oldenkotte, a hamlet on the border with Germany. Near Eibergen is the Mallumse Molen, a water mill from 1748. You will also see a beautiful monumental half-timbered barn here. A labyrinth has now been created by a landscape artist on the site of the Mallum manor house. You cycle back through the Buurserzand and the Haakbergerveen. The juniper bush is rare and is protected in the Netherlands. The growth of this plant makes the Buurserzand special, but what makes it extra special is that they are more than 150 years old here!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
