Description

The Amsterdamse Bos was created in the 1930s to meet the green needs of Amsterdam residents. The forest appears larger than it is, by cleverly dealing with the sight lines and 'vanishing points' between the trees, the reeds and the riparian lands. Special animals and plants such as the small newt, the grass snake, the reed warbler, the night orchid and the carnivorous sundew occur in the park. In a younger part of the Amsterdamse Bos, nature is given almost complete free rein. Scottish Highlanders graze this part, creating a lot of variety in the vegetation. The result is a natural environment with a variety of reed marshes, open water and fast-growing swamp forest. With the help of the many bridges, one design of which is even more original than the other, visitors to the park can go where they want and all places are accessible. Go well prepared and buy a snack at the Mr. L. Günes supermarket, where you can also park your car. A thirst-quenching apple, a delicious sandwich and some toppings or a tasty piece of cheese or sausage and something to drink for the road. After only one kilometer you arrive at the first attraction; Haarlemmer station ema. EMA, The Electric Museum Tram Line Amsterdam, is a tourist attraction where you can discover the region on old steam trains and historic railway lines. The museum line was opened on September 20, 1975 as part of the centenary of the Amsterdam tram. Trains used are old electric trams from Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Zeist, Groningen, Vienna and Prague, built between 1904 and 1960. From this station you travel with the authentic machines to the stations Pramenpad ema, Koenenkade ema, van nijenrodeweg ema, kalfjeslaan ema, amsterdamseweg ema, karselaan ema, molenweg ema, Amstelveel station ema, handweg ema and Bovenkerk station ema. The De Dikkert mill is located near the EMA station on Molenweg and Amstelveen. This mill was built as a grist mill in 1896. Previously, there was a grain mill on this site that was driven by steam power. Around 1990, the building changed hands and this miller started his own business at the De Eendracht flour mill in Amsterdam, which had been standing still for some time. Because this became too expensive, he had to close the business in Amsterdam and continued his business here. To save fuel costs, the De Dikkert windmill was built next to the steam mill. Before 1896, De Dikkert stood as a sawmill in Zaandam.
