De Kapelanij

Brasserie de Kapelanij is an initiative of the Limburg Autism Foundation, an entrepreneur in care and welfare, and the municipality of Zutendaal. With this initiative, we want to offer people with autism and/or another disability the opportunity to collaborate, in front of or behind the scenes, and to enjoy meaningful daytime activities. We try in this way to involve people with autism, who mainly experience social and communicative difficulties, in the social happenings of a catering business. We are also running a project together with the municipality of Zutendaal as part of a rural development programme. Our project is called'Eat local, think global\\\' and aims to stimulate the consumption of local and seasonal products with a view to sustainable agriculture. In the dishes on our menu we mainly work with local ingredients in order to limit the'food miles\\\' and to keep the food chain as short as possible. To this end, allotments have been created nearby by the municipality where the local population can grow vegetables in an environmentally friendly way. We also work with third world and fair-trade products from the Oxfam world shop. These products are included in our offer on the map. Finally, we also handle any revenue generated by the Kapelanij differently. These proceeds are fully reinvested in healthcare and thus benefit people with autism.
