Friday June 13, the first of four busy days in Leeuwarden. The travelers visit a city school, prison and two city palaces of the Orange-Nassau family: the Stadhouderlijk Hof and the Princessehof. They also visit the Prinsentuin. During lunch at the club, Van Lennep is stuck with a number of lawyers. One person thinks he's funny, another is extremely rude and the rest are just saltless guys. According to Van Lennep.

Love
For Van Lennep, the visit to Leeuwarden is clearly all about Henriette van Asbeck: a lady he knows from the past. Among the many lines he devotes to her, it is easy to read that he has warm feelings for her. The only problem is that at that moment Henriette's name is no longer Van Asbeck, but Rengers: she is married. In the third TV episode, Marita Mathijssen wonders whether Henriette could be the mother of the illegitimate child that Van Lennep fathered when he was eighteen.

On Tuesday, June 17, travelers will move into De Posthoorn, an inn that still exists and is included in the route. They knock on the door of the preacher Adriani, who is clearly not pleased with their visit. The next day they pass an obelisk on the former Lauwerszeedijk that you can still view. When they walk into Groningen, Van Lennep thinks it is time to describe Frisian mores and customs. What follows is an extremely negative characterization:"But I declare that impartiality and my firm conviction have guided the pen in my judgments.\\\"
