Gedenkteken Lauwerszeedijk

This obelisk from 1729 is a memorial for the closing of the Lauwerszeedijk in the same year. The lock complex you see here is called the Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen and also dates from 1729. After the closure of the Lauwerszee in 1969, this lock complex lost its original function.
