Tour of Waterloopbos, Giethoorn and Zwartsluis

Kraggenburg is the starting point of this route. In the Waterloopbos you will discover the scale models of more than thirty waterworks hidden. The former hydraulic laboratory has been transformed into an information centre and pavilion, nice to take a look inside. This route also takes you along the open water and through the reed lands and swamp forests of the Weerriben-Wieden National Park. The area is 35 square kilometres and part of the area is used for reed cultivation. Via the beautiful old Vollenhove you cycle into the nature reserve. Take a break at Café Restaurant De Otterskooi in the nice Dwarsgracht! Zwartsluis is a picturesque village that lies at the point where the Zwarte Water and the Meppelerdiep meet. The village was once the transit port for the transport of Drenthe peat to Holland.
