Your day out starts with a cup of coffee at Tapperij/Eethuis't Hof van Colmschate. This cycle route takes you along the beautiful Hanseatic cities of Deventer and Zutphen. Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. Between 1000 and 1500 it developed into a trading centre. Deventer was a member of the German Hanseatic League, intended to promote trade between cities and offer merchants protection. Zutphen is also sometimes called the Tower City, because of the many historic towers. A large part was built during the Hanseatic period. From Zutphen, herring, butter and beer were transported via the IJssel, Rhine and sea. In the centre of the city you will see beautifully decorated warehouses, merchant houses and churches. The cities are connected by the beautiful IJssel, a wonderful cycling area!
