Beautiful country estates, ancient castles and estates with coach houses, orangeries and lush parks. Discover the gems in the Bollenstreek with this cycling route.
The route takes you past special places that tell the story of the Golden Age and the wig period; the time when Holland was the richest country in the world. Prosperous regents and merchants wanted to leave the city in the summer and built country houses on the sandy soil of the old row of dunes behind the coast. Spending the summer in the healthy open air, not too far from Haarlem, The Hague or Leiden, that was the idea.
