Castle
Kasteel Het Huys Dever

It is not entirely certain when this castle was built in Lisse, but it probably dates from 1375. The building is a keep, a fortified house, many of which used to be found in this coastal region. All these historic houses have disappeared except for Het Huys Dever. Around the year 1580 and again between 1630 and 1634, various parts were added to the house, creating a country house. This country house was inhabited until about 1750. Then the house was abandoned and fell into disrepair, after which part of the house collapsed in 1848. After that, other parts of the mansion also fell so badly that they could no longer be saved. The original keep was all that remained of the manor. The residential tower was restored in 1973 and it is still standing today. The remains of the castle are open to the public, so be sure to check it out.
