Your start and finish is the'Sonnenhof\\\', located above Wingeshausen. Three route markers lead the way - a bison burnt in wood, the black R and the logo of the bison world on a white background. The first stage to the wisent wilderness is already very varied. It consists of soft forest paths or a landscaped narrow path, which will also impress the little hikers and nature explorers. In between you walk on a route of the Rothaarsteig.
After about six kilometers you reach the wisent wilderness. From here, the three-kilometre circular route leads you to the observation enclosure - on the tracks of the largest land mammal living in Europe, the wisent. The observation enclosure in no way gives the feeling of being in an animal park. You scramble over tree trunks and rock formations and cross streams. Then you walk back to the Rothaarsteig trail, the wisent trail, which takes you back to Aue-Wingeshausen.
But first a short route, in the direction of the hunting lodge, takes you to the Rothaarsteig. From the hunting lodge you turn right into the valley. At the parking lot in the Bockeshorn, the path leads you through a meadow, along the Bortlings stream to the'Forellenhof\\\', and then back to the'Sonnenhof\\\'.
