Let yourself be transported back to days long gone with a trip through the historic peat area at Vriezenveen. You cycle along the Engbertsdijksvenen and the Veenmuseum Westerhaar.

Peat Museum
From Vriezenveen you drive into the wide polders. Veenmuseum Westerhaar is an open-air museum with peat huts, an old typical Vriezenveen farm and a nineteenth-century shop-cum-taproom. You can let yourself be driven around the site in an original peat train. The Engbertsdijksvenen is an extensive peat area with heather, forests and fens. It is a remnant of the large peat swamp that once covered the northeast of the Netherlands. Walk a short distance on the club path to enjoy the beautiful nature.

In Sibculo you will then pass the grounds of the Great Galilee Cistercian Monastery, which was built around the year 1400. Little of this monastery has been preserved, but its history is kept alive in the museum 'Visible Past'. In Langeveen you can get off at Café Nobbenhuis for a refreshing pit stop. Further on you will pass the Blue Berry nursery "De Greftenhoeve". Back in Vriezenveen you can visit the Historical Museum, highly recommended.
