Description
You have arrived at the fourth part of the Zuiderzee Route . This stage takes you along the peripheral lakes between Flevoland, Overijssel and Gelderland. Before the draining of the polders of Flevoland and the construction of the Afsluitdijk, these lakes were part of the Zuiderzee.
Cycling along the Veluwerandmeren
Hotel Zwartewater in Zwartsluis is the starting point of this tour. From here cycle to the ferry that transports you across the water to Genemuiden. You then continue to IJsselmuiden and Kampen. Then you set sail along the Veluwerandmeren to Harderwijk. You will successively pass the Drontermeer, the Veluwemeer and the Wolderwijd. In short, the water and the beautiful views that come with it are never far away on this route. You can also take a look at the fortified city of Elburg along the way. This used to be a prosperous Hanseatic city and this is reflected in all the historical sights you will find here, such as the Vischpoort.
From Hanseatic City to Hanseatic City
You end your tour in another historic Hanseatic city on the Veluwe: Harderwijk. Get to know this cozy city and rest from your trip with a snack and a drink at Hotel Allure Lounge & Diner. You can of course also stay here for ultimate relaxation.
The Essenburgh
Just outside Hierden you pass De Essenburgh Castle. This fairytale castle from 1652 is beautifully situated among all the greenery for which the Veluwe is known. The estate on which this castle is located is also worth a visit with beautiful English landscape gardens and a historic monastery building. Admire these gems in the middle of the woods.
