Description
On the second stage of the Zuiderzee route you set course from Workum to Stavoren and on to Rijs. You constantly cycle along the edge of the IJsselmeer with beautiful views over the water. You will also get to know cozy Frisian villages and you can admire various sights from your pedals.

From Workum you drive through the vast Frisian landscape to Hindeloopen. Right at the start of your tour you will pass the Nylânnermolen. When the blades of this historic mill from the 18th century turn, you can step inside and admire the structure from the inside. A little further on you can view the many sights in the small town of Hindeloopen, such as the Westertoren and the old fishing port. You then cycle on to Stavoren and Mirns.
Hotel Gaasterland
On the edge of the IJsselmeer you will find the Red Cliff, which consists of boulder clay with a special red color. You drive past this landmark to the end point at Hotel Gaasterland. Take a seat here for a well-deserved meal and then stay in one of the attractive hotel rooms.

Another point of interest on this route is a bell tower. This bell tower was built in 1723 in a cemetery in Mirns to replace the church that once stood here. The bell tower was destroyed in the Second World War and was rebuilt in 1953. Bell chairs can be found throughout the Netherlands, but you will find them mainly in Friesland.
