Walking through the harbor area of IJmuiden

From dunes to sea locks
The starting point of this route is on the edge of IJmuiden at the IJmuider Sea and Harbor Museum. In this former fishing school on the Havenkade you can learn more about everything that has to do with the sea, fish and the ports. From here you walk along the dune area of National Park Zuid-Kennemerland to the village of Driehuis. You then set course for the North Sea Canal and the sea locks of IJmuiden. Here you will find the information point SHIP where you will be informed about the construction of the largest sea lock in the world.

Culinary enjoyment
Then you walk back to the starting point of the route. After your tour you can visit the Halkade to pamper yourself culinary. A wine tasting, a sandwich with fresh herring or a tasty cheese board, you will find it all here.

The Fisherman's Monument
A stone's throw from the end of this route you will pass the Vissersmonument. This three meter high bronze statue of a fisherman is placed at the head of the harbor of IJmuiden. On the 16 plates at the monument are the names of 319 fishermen who died at sea from the year 1886.
