Description
Fort Ertbrand
The route starts in Kapellenbos, a green suburb where you can spot many villas and country houses. Here you can immediately take a look at the Fort of Stabroek and the Fort of Brasschaat. Further on you pass Fort Ertbrand from 1908, which is surrounded by a wide moat. After the Second World War, the Belgian mine clearance service used the fort to destroy old explosives and ammunition. As a result, the fort was largely destroyed. The Antitank Canal, which was dug between 1937 and 1939, runs along the fort.
The Interpreter
You cycle through the woods and the quiet countryside to Kapellen, a charming village where you will find old villas and beautiful monumental buildings. You will also find plenty of cozy terraces for a refreshing Burgundian stopover. A little later you cycle into De Uitlegger nature reserve, a vast park with ponds lined with rhododendrons. The park owes its name to the surveyor (=explainer) who used to live here. How wonderfully peaceful it is here!

The Noordertuin of Antwerp is a beautiful green area to the north of Antwerp. Get on your bike or put on your walking shoes and hit the road in this area to completely unwind a stone's throw from the busy city. Hidden among the greenery are special forts from the First World War and you will find many more beautiful things here.
