Fort van Stabroek

Visit the website
The Fort of Stabroek was built between 1902 and 1908 as a replacement for the Great Wall that was broken through for the expansion of the port of Antwerp. Around the fort you will find an anti-tank moat, an artificial deep moat that was supposed to provide extra protection for the fort, which was built just before the Second World War. However, this moat could not stop the German advance. In April 1947 the fort lost its function as a defensive work. After that, the fort and the surrounding moat were only used for recreational purposes. The fort has been renovated to keep it intact.
