Northwest Brabant is ideal for exploring by bike. You will find a vast polder landscape, rustic villages and old forts. A gem on your route is historic Willemstad.
Picturesque Willemstad
You will soon pass two former fortresses from the Defense Line of the Volkerak and the Hollandsch Diep: Fort Sabina Henrica and Fort de Hel. Both forts were built by the French in 1811. In between you cycle past the De Sint Antoniegorzen nature reserve, a remnant of a tidal bunting. Here you look out over grasslands where many meadow birds live. Further on you pass through Willemstad: a beautiful fortified town where you can easily experience the history.
Atmospheric Steenbergen
Cycling in the sea clay polders of Northwest Brabant is wonderfully peaceful. You can get a breath of fresh air here and enjoy the beautiful views, such as those over the Tonnekreek. At Stampersgat you cross the Dintel again, a beautiful place. Steenbergen is a former fortified town. You can enjoy the cozy and rustic atmosphere here, just like in Dinteloord.
