Tour of Echt and the Basilica of Saint Odiliënberg

Around Echt you can cycle carefree through the varied landscape of the narrowest part of the Netherlands. Your route starts at Tuincentrum Schmitz. In Echt you can visit the Gemeentemuseum Echt-Susteren. Just outside Montfort you will pass the impressive ruins of Kasteel Montfort, a thirteenth-century castle that was built by order of Hendrik III van Gelre. It was practically impregnable due to its location on a ridge in the water-rich Vlootbeekdal, due to the polygonal ground plan and the thick natural stone walls. You cycle back via Sint Odilienberg, a small village with a rich history. Saint Otger, a missionary from the eighth century is buried here. You will find a beautiful basilica of great cultural-historical value: the Basilica of the HH Wiro, Plechelmus and Otgerus.
