The start and end point of this route is near Jeanne de Merode Castle, which is now a town hall at this fairytale location. There is a historic garden surrounding the castle. You can take a look at the castle during opening hours of the town hall and occasionally interesting exhibitions are held.
Along the way you will pass Prins de Merode Castle, also known as Westerlo Castle. The castle is located just outside the city and has been owned by the de Merode family since 1484, who still live in it. The park that extends around the castle is inspired by French gardens.
The route winds along the Grote Nete in the Kwareken nature reserve and is fully signposted with hiking junctions.
