Description
The starting and ending point of this route is near Jeanne de Merode Castle, which is now a town hall on this fairytale location. There is a historic garden around the castle. You can take a look inside the castle during the opening hours of the town hall and occasionally interesting exhibitions are held there.
On the way you will pass Kasteel Prins de Merode, also called the castle of Westerlo. The castle is located just outside the city and has been in the possession of the de Merode family since 1484, who still live there. The park that extends around the castle is inspired by French gardens.
The route winds along the Grote Nete in the Kwarekken nature reserve and is fully signposted with hiking junctions.
