Cycling along the Rhine and Waal

From Huissen you take a varied tour through the river area. You cross the Lower Rhine, after which you cycle over the dike along the floodplains and the rippling water. On the Aerdtsedijk you drive past a monumental dike warehouse from 1879, further along there are several beautiful old farms and the sixteenth-century village church. Just past Herwen you drive along the Oude Rijn, after which the path eventually ends in Lobith. Here you pass the Schipperspoort, the only remnant of a castle that stood here until the seventeenth century. Via Tolkamer and De Bijland you drive to the ferry that takes you across the Rhine. At IJssalon Clevers Millingen aan de Rijn you can enjoy a traditional refreshment before crossing the Waal from Millingerwaard. Finally, you cycle past Doornenburg Castle.
