Description

From Hoek van Holland you cycle a bit along the Nieuwe Waterweg. Here you have beautiful views over the water and the ports of Rotterdam. You will pass the Oude Zeeplein, the place where the sea was until 1971. The dune area you then drive into is new land made from 19 million cubic meters of sand that was left over from the construction of the Europoort. You drive a few kilometers through the dunes, after which you drive through the Westland, or the Glass City. The Staelduinse Bos is located on a remnant of former estuary dunes, it was arranged as an estate in the nineteenth century. Further on you drive along the Oranjeplassen, a bird-rich nature reserve. You drive back along the Nieuwe Waterweg to Restaurant Saam Hoek van Holland.
