Voorthuizen, Nijkerk and Stroe

The Gelderse Vallei has to offer you endless views, small forests, wild heathlands and old hamlets. Here you cycle through a wet lowland that traditionally consisted of blue grassland. Here and there you can still find remnants of this original soil. Nowadays the meadows are a lot drier and many cows graze there. You also drive through the Arkemheen-Eemland National Landscape. This peat meadow area with its old allotment pattern is known for its peace and space. There is hardly a tree or house to be seen. Many rare plants grow in this area, such as valerian, loosestrife, celestial key and arrowwort. It is an ideal resting and breeding place for meadow birds, but the ermine, weasel and hare also forage here. From the dike you have a beautiful view over the Nuldernauw. There are also some historic buildings on your route. For example, you will pass the medieval Oldenaller estate. The old country house, two farm complexes and a staff house with dovecote, among others, are recognized as national monuments. The buildings are not accessible to the public. Just below Nijkerk you drive past the De Hoop flour mill from 1888. The two entrance gates of the mill are not opposite each other. In the past, anyone who rode in with a horse and cart had to make a turn in the mill. The route starts and ends in Stroe at restaurant De Landing. You can park here for free and charge your electric bicycle. In this hospitable restaurant you can relax after your beautiful bike ride.
