The real Elfsteden feeling is still missing at the start at hotel de Wijnberg in Bolsward. It is true that it is nice and fresh and there are signs with the inscription'Elfstedentocht\\\' above the canals in Boalsert, but with a full ebike even the headwind is overcome with a smile. Unlike the skating tour, which is mainly associated with'suffering\\\', the Helftstedentocht e-bike route is an adventure for bon vivants. If you still want to'taste\\\' of the famous winter brother, you can visit Sneek, the first stop from Bolsward. For example in the Ice Hall of the Fries Scheepvaart Museum, where old Eleven Cities Tours are revived. After leaving the Sneeker Waterpoort it is time to take a serious step towards IJlst. The e-bike still has a full battery - the maximum five lines can be seen on the display - but just before IJlst there will be four. How many kilometers can such an electric bicycle with pedal assistance actually handle? Well, that remains the question for a while, but meandering along dykes, polders, mills and beautiful houses of farmers who apparently have farmed well, that is a matter of later concern. And that does not change in the breathtaking lake area of South-West Friesland, with Oudega, Gaastmeer, Koudum, Hemelum as benchmarks. It is only around Stavoren, the most southern point of the route, that the realization dawns that the battery probably cannot withstand 89 km in one day. Because the e-biker has to consume a lot of farmer's omelettes or bear burgers to get his vehicle fully charged again: charging simply takes a long time. Don't panic, because after Stavoren and the kilometre-long IJsselmeer dike with lots of lamb stuff - a lot of whining for nothing, because the view is great - wait Hindeloopen. For the hardcore skating enthusiast, the Eerste Frisian Skating Museum is an obligatory stop. The true mile-eaters soon leave picturesque Hindeloopen behind on their way to Workum, where it turns out that flower bulb fields are not an exclusive affair for the Bulb Region. Then the south wind blows the e-biker almost automatically towards Bolsward. Almost, because at about 10 kilometers from the end point, the battery suddenly stops supporting. He apparently thinks it has been nice after about 80 kilometers of loyal service. Fortunately, the e-bike appears to be able to progress quite well even without pedal assistance. Moreover, it does have something: still a bit of suffering on the (H)Eleven Cities Route.
