De Trije fan Ljouwert (Leeuwarden): diel 1 Sudwest

The Trije fan Ljouwert consists of three cycling routes through and around the city of Leeuwarden. The length has been chosen in such a way that there is also time for other activities in this old fortified city. Starting point is the tourist office. Bicycle rental is possible at the station shed. Part 1 of the Trije fan Ljouwert (Leeuwarden) goes through the southwestern area near Leeuwarden. It partly follows the old drainage of the Middelzee, namely the Zwette. The Zwette is also the part of the Elfstedentocht that skaters complete early in the morning in the dark. After the Zwette, the route leads through typical Frisian small villages, with the church as the center. This area, which was located in or on the edge of the former Middelzee, has villages that are often built on mounds. The route goes to Bears via Weidumerhout. Here the contours of Uniastate are still visible in the landscape. Via Boksum and Blessum we reach Deinum with its characteristic spire, namely in the shape of an onion. We go towards Marssum via the Van Harinxmakanaal. The Poptalot can still be viewed here. The Poptaslot is an old Frisian state. We then head towards Leeuwarden and return to our starting point via the old city center. Highlights: . the vast Frisian meadow landscape with lovely villages. Weidumerhout with opportunity for coffee/tea and canoe rental. in Bears a petting zoo and the contours of Uniastate. In Marssum you can visit the beautiful Poptalot. Back in Leeuwarden there are many museums to visit or a terrace in the old town.
