Tour of Oldemarkt and Tjeukemeer

From Landwinkel and Camping Waterbuffelfarm you can drive straight into Friesland. But first you cycle through Oldemarkt, a picturesque village where you can admire the medieval Reformed Church. Then you cycle a long way along the river De Linde. Between junctions 36 and 32 you look out to the right over the Rottige Meente, a nature reserve of water, reeds and flowering grasslands. This beautiful landscape was created by peat extraction, this arduous work lasted until the beginning of the twentieth century. On the outskirts of Echten you will see the St. Laurentius Church, and on the Tjeukemeer you will pass a monumental pumping station from 1913. You drive back through the vast Frisian countryside to the Rottige Meente. Here you pass two polder mills: De Rietvink from 1855 and De Reiger from 1871.
