Description

You will find the Gouwzee between the mainland of Waterland and the Marken peninsula. This route takes you along the swaying reed collars and through the historic towns around this water and polder de Purmer. You cycle through the Purmerdijk through typical Zuiderzee towns. One of the highlights of this trip is the crossing from Volendam to Marken with the Volendam Marken Express. Enjoy the water and admire the monumental wooden houses, narrow alleys, drawbridges and wharves on the peninsula that make you feel like you are walking around in an open-air museum. During your trip you can go to the Hof van Marken and De Waegh Monnickendam for a break. The route ends at Spijkerman Eten & Drinken, where you can recover from your journey. Along the way you can take a break at one of the many cozy places for a snack and a drink. During your trip you can also stop at special sights such as the Fort near Kwadijk, the Zuidpolder mill and the Marker Museum. In short, there is plenty to see on this route.
