Tour of Holterberg, Sallandse Heuvelrug and Wierdense Velt

Your route starts at Restaurant De Stadsboerderij Rijssen. The forests on the Sallandse Heuvelrug have been planted to prevent sand drifts and form a nice change between the dry heathlands that you cycle over. You come over the Holterberg, which measures 59.5 meters above sea level at its highest point. The last viable population of grouse in the Netherlands lives here. You also cycle across the Wierdense Veld, a peat and heathland area with dry and wet heath, peat pits and birch thickets. A flock of 300 Veluwe heath sheep regularly feast on fresh twigs and twigs. On the way back you will pass the Ter Horst mill in Rijssen, an octagonal upper porter from 1752. Volunteer millers beat oil and peel barley with the mill, which is beautifully situated along the Regge.
