Along lakes and forests in Walkenried

From the campsite in Walkenried you can use the back exit, after which you turn right at the top of the gate towards the Cistiënzer abbey Walkenried. You follow the path on top of the mountain past open fields, past the Schützenverein to the paved road that you follow a bit down. At some point you can turn right into a path and follow it to the bottom of the mountain where you cross a bridge and turn left to a parking lot. You cross it diagonally to the right to a gate in the abbey wall. You now leave the abbey ruins on your right and continue until you reach a road where you turn left and towards a hunting lodge. You ignore this and continue your way until you reach a main road where you turn right. Then walk towards the Bahnhof and cross the railway there. Turn right there on a narrow footpath along that road, until after the first lake and take the path on the right between the lakes. Keep following this path past several lakes and through the forest until you reach a large open field where you continue your way to the left. Now walk past that field and continue your way. At some point you will come to a point where you can go in several directions, take the path to the right that runs through the middle of the field. This road eventually ends at a railway that you cross (well say climb over). On the other side you go to the left and straight ahead until you reach the Sachsenrui. You can also go up a bit further where you have a nice view of the Karst Mountains of the Harz.
