Description
In the National Landscape Noardlike Fryske Wâlden you can enjoy wooded banks, alder canals, rows of trees, grassy grasslands and fertile fields. This route takes you through this landscape with a lonely farm or a ribbon or ash village here and there. Relaxing should not be a problem in this wonderfully peaceful area.
On the road between the farmlands
The starting point of this route is near the village of Eastermar. From here you cycle past several lakes and small villages. The farmland you encounter along the way often has special and varied dimensions: from very narrow long plots to square pieces of land. Many of these grounds were laid out in the Middle Ages. In Sumar you can take a look at De Hoop flour mill from 1867. Then you continue cycling over various extensive estates to Fogelsangh State, a former fortress dating from 1646. A little further on you will find the Botanitsche Tuin De Kruidhof. Get off your bike here and stroll through the seventeen beautiful themed gardens.
A historic mill
On the last part of the route you can admire the windmill De Mûnts in the village of Buitenpost. In 1871 the mill was placed in Oosterhoogebrug in connection with the construction of the Eems Canal. In 1952, a demolition permit was issued for the mill, which was bought by a private individual and had the ground sailer rebuilt on the current site. Then he also got his current name, which means'The Monk\\\' in Dutch.
