Description
In the Noardlike Fryske Wâlden National Landscape you can enjoy hedgerows, alder banks, rows of trees, grassy grasslands and fertile fields. This route takes you through this landscape with here and there a lonely farm or a ribbon or es village. Relaxing should be no problem in this wonderfully quiet area.
On the road between the agricultural fields
The starting point of this route is near the village of Eastermar. From here you cycle past various lakes and small villages. The agricultural lands you encounter along the way often have special and varied dimensions: from very narrow, long plots to square pieces of land. Many of these grounds were created in the Middle Ages. In Sumar you can take a look at the De Hoop flour mill from 1867. Then you cycle on through various extensive estates to Fogelsangh State, a former castle dating from 1646. A little further on you will find the Botanitsche Tuin De Kruidhof. Get off your bike here and stroll through the seventeen beautiful thematic gardens.
A historic mill
On the last part of the route you can admire the De Mûnts mill in the village of Buitenpost. In 1871 the mill was installed in Oosterhoogebrug in connection with the construction of the Eemskanaal. In 1952, a demolition permit was issued for the mill, which was purchased by a private individual and had the ground sailor rebuilt on its current site. Then he also got his current name, which means 'The Monk' in Dutch.
