The Vecht winds its way through the beautiful landscape and passes picturesque villages, estates, forests and heathland. A landscape in which bygone times have been preserved, where you can still find plenty of space and tranquility and where you can really enjoy yourself. The Vechtdal Taste Cycle Route is a wonderful cycling tour of approximately 40 kilometers, past castles and manors combined with a number of culinary stops where you can literally taste the region. You can taste the pure local products that the chef uses in delicious dishes. You can also visit some local producers.

Culinary stops
Brasserie Aan de Oever is a stylish restaurant in a unique location right on the river Vecht and is part of hotel Mooirivier. The kitchen mainly cooks with fresh, honest and regional products. You taste, as it were, nature in the dishes.
At Tuinderij Van der Kolk you can see how fresh and fair local products are grown. You can - if the farmer is there himself - take a look in the greenhouses. The farm shop sells everything from strawberries and asparagus to potatoes and from raspberries to walnuts.
Vineyard and Fruit Company 'de Varsenerhof' is situated in a beautiful spot, between the extensive forests in Ommen. The vineyard has a size of 1 hectare and on the site there are also various fruit trees where the farmer's wife makes deliciously fruity toppings. Guided tours of the vineyard are held on Thursdays in July, August and September.
The rare old-Dutch fire-red cattle of the Vechtdal Hoeve have a wonderful time in the floodplains of the Vecht. The meat of these animals is available in the restaurant of Hotel Paping, which is further along this Taste Cycle Route.
Boerderijwinkel de Groene Marke is located in the center of Ommen. It is a cozy shop with agricultural products from the Vechtdal, wonderfully filled gift baskets and attractive gifts. Directly from the farmland to the customer.
Hampshire Hotel Restaurant Paping works extensively with (seasonal) products from the immediate region of the Vechtdal.
Cheese farm Heileuver has mastered the art of cheese making for more than a quarter of a century. Years of experience and old family recipes guarantee a special taste. When you get off your bike here, you can come and taste cheese in the farm shop

Stellingmolen de Konijnenbelt is an oil and hulling mill that was built in 1806 by Hendrik Konijnenbelt. The mill runs every Thursday from 14:00 to 15:00. The mill can be visited by appointment from May to October.
The tour also takes you to an old-fashioned sheepfold; a kind of stable that served as shelter for sheep grazing on the heather.
Another special building in Ommen is Het Laer, which is located on a beautiful estate outside the built-up area. The Laer used to be a castle; the surrounding canals and the wooded area in which the castle came into its own are still visible.
As you cycle further through nature, you will pass the Vilsterse windmill, a flour mill that was rebuilt in 1901 because the original mill from 1858 went up in flames.
Near the town of Rechteren is the castle of the same name, which is the only medieval castle that has been preserved in Overijssel. Rechteren Castle was once commissioned by the Counts of Bentheim.
