Description

You explore the heart of Apeldoorn, but also the green countryside. You cycle past the exceptionally green Bussloo, just a small town compared to the hustle and bustle of the city. In Klarenbeek, just two hundred meters from the parking lot where you can park your car for free, is the first beautiful sight of the route: the De Hoop mill. This mill used to grind grain for farmers in the surrounding area was built in 1905 to replace the earlier octagonal belt mill that was demolished that year. Because the condition of mills deteriorates faster due to standstill, De Hoop is still in (limited) use, despite being privately owned. You cycle to the center of Apeldoorn, where you take a break at Pannenkoekenrestaurant Brinkpark. This restaurant is known for its traditionally baked pancakes and poffertjes and the poffertjes stall on the Loolaan has been a household name among the residents of Apeldoorn for over a hundred years. It is not without reason that the pancake restaurant has had regular customers for years who come from far and wide to enjoy the fragrant pancakes. The last three sights are all old water mills, of which you will encounter De Bouwhofmolen first. It is unknown exactly when this mill was built. We do know that De Bouwhof, which previously also housed a laundry, milled paper. During a major restoration, the stream was excavated again to get the drive working again and both the mill head and the water wheel were restored. The mill is now used as a home. Three kilometers further you will see the Hamermolen, which was founded around 1645. Just like in the past, when the paper that was milled here promoted intellectual ability, De Hamermolen now pursues that goal in a more modern way. The mill has been completely restored and has served as a location for training and coaching sessions since 2001. The water continues to symbolize exploring new paths full of inspiration, innovation and creativity. The last attraction on the route is the Ruitersmolen along the Beekbergse Beek. This is one of the municipal monuments of Apeldoorn, whose predecessor was founded in 1606. This mill, together with another mill, which also milled paper, carried "De Ruitersmolens" on the other side of the stream. One mill burned down and this mill came to a standstill, which accelerated the decline of the mill. A major renovation was completed in 1985. Nowadays the mill is regularly open for viewing. On the first floor it is demonstrated how paper making works and on the ground floor grain is milled on a voluntary basis with two pairs of milling stones.
