Description

This route takes you past the castles and estates west of Lochem. You can also take a look at the Staring Dome, which can be reached via a foot ferry. Since 2003, Wijngaard De Braoke has been a vineyard with grape varieties that are insensitive to mildew. The grape varieties ripen well in a cool climate. It has been known for centuries that wine growers have to choose between a lot or tasty. If all bunches remain hanging, a large yield is possible. But the result is a thin, watery wine without an aftertaste. Strong yield limitation (by cutting away many bunches) produces a concentrated wine with a beautiful aftertaste. The Braoke vineyard has chosen the latter. It is definitely recommended to visit here and taste the delicious wines. De Nieuwe Aanleg is located in the Deventer-Zutphen-Lochem triangle on the Twente Canal and has its own marina and camping pitches. The Staring Dome is located between junctions 17 and 16, just across the Berkel, turning left onto a sandy path. The tea dome was built about 150 years ago. The client was the youngest daughter of the famous poet ACW Staring. Until her death in 1893, she often visited the dome to enjoy the peace and nature. A poem by her father is painted on one of the walls. The dome can be visited daily from sunrise to sunset. Free admission, accessible via foot ferry across the Berkel. The name Huis Velhorst was first used in 1506. The house was donated to Natuurmonumenten in 1972. Around the country house there is a park garden with a pond, beech avenues, rhododendrons and azaleas. Velhorst House cannot be visited. There are old camps along the Berkel river, fields that have acquired a convex shape due to centuries of fertilization. On the estate you will see authentic farms with painted shutters, hedgerows, orchards and flowery grasslands. Kienveen is a vulnerable, moist area with many frogs and special plants. The Schapendijk runs north from this intersection and is part of the dirt road system through Het Grote Veld, an extensive nature reserve. A large part of this area belongs to the Hackfort estate and is owned by Natuurmonumenten. De Boskamp is the name of a farm and a country house, which are located opposite each other on the Gazoorweg, just east of junction 81. At junction 44 we find the Warkense Mill. The windmill turns and with sufficient wind the mill also operates. Many old bakery tools and machines can be seen in the museum. Part of it has also been furnished as a nostalgic bakery shop with an old counter and cash register. On special occasions there are bread baking demonstrations with the fagot oven.
