Description
Enjoy cycling along the vast polders full of cattle and along the banks of rivers such as the Vecht and the Gein, it's all possible with this route. You will also pass various forts and the fortified city of Naarden along the way. History lovers can also indulge themselves on this route.
Admire the Muiderslot
This cycle route starts at the West Battery, a fortress at the mouth of the Vecht. From here you cycle through the old Muiden fortress, past various forts and the famous Muiderslot. This is one of the most beautiful medieval castles in the Netherlands, so it is worth getting off your bike here to admire the castle in all its glory. It is said that the castle was built in the 13th century by Floris V. In the 17th century the famous writer PC Hooft lived here. Then you cycle further to Weesp via the fortified town of Naarden. You pass through rural nature and past various lakes.
Explore the farmland
Cows and sheep graze on the vast meadows and with a bit of luck you can pet a lamb along the way. You will also pass several farms where you can visit for tasty regional products. For example, there is a cheese farm in Weesp where you can taste and buy homemade farmer's cheese. Eventually you will end up in Muiden again.
