Enjoy a delightful bike ride past expansive polders teeming with cattle and along the banks of rivers like the Vecht and Gein. This route also features several forts and the fortified town of Naarden. History buffs will also find plenty to enjoy on this route.
Admire Muiderslot
This cycling route starts at the Westbatterij, a fort at the mouth of the Vecht River. From here, you cycle through the old fortress of Muiden, past various forts and the famous Muiderslot. This is one of the most beautiful medieval castles in the Netherlands, so it's worth taking a break from your bike to admire it in all its glory. It's said that the castle was built in the 13th century by Floris V. The famous writer PC Hooft lived here in the 17th century. Then, you cycle through the fortified town of Naarden to Weesp, passing through rural countryside and past several lakes.
Explore the farmland
Cows and sheep graze in the expansive meadows, and with a bit of luck, you might even pet a lamb along the way. You'll also pass several farms where you can visit for delicious regional products. For example, in Weesp, there's a cheese farm where you can taste and buy homemade farm cheese. Finally, you'll arrive back in Muiden.
