Description
Enjoy cycling along the wide polders full of cattle and along the banks of rivers such as the Vecht and the Gein, it's all possible with this route. You will also pass several forts and through the fortified town of Naarden. History buffs can therefore also indulge themselves on this route.
Admire the Muiderslot
This cycle route starts at the West Battery, a fortress at the mouth of the Vecht. From here you cycle through the old fortress of Muiden past various fortresses and the famous Muiderslot. This is one of the most beautiful medieval castles in all of the Netherlands, so it's worth getting off your bike here to admire the castle in all its glory. It is said that the castle was built in the 13th century by Floris V. In the 17th century, the famous writer PC Hooft lived here. You then cycle via the fortified town of Naarden to Weesp. You will pass through farmland and along various lakes.
Explore the farmland
Cows and sheep graze on the vast meadows and with a bit of luck you can pet a lamb along the way. You will also pass several farms where you can visit for tasty regional products. For example, there is a cheese farm in Weesp where you can taste and buy homemade farmhouse cheese. You will eventually end up in Muiden again.
