Description

When you think of Royal forests, you might immediately think of Apeldoorn and its surroundings, but you can also find royal greenery in Friesland: the Oranjewoud. This route takes you through this beautiful forest east of Heerenveen. The starting point of this route is on the edge of Heerenveen. From here you immediately walk into the forests that consist of former estates with long avenues, parks with oaks and beeches, small meadows, waters and here and there a country house. At the beginning of the route you can take a look at Museum Belvédère, a museum for modern art by mainly Frisian artists. You will also pass a Bell Tower and a lookout tower that you can climb for a beautiful view of the surroundings. You will eventually end your walk at the parking lot of Museum Belvédère, where you also started your walk.
