Cycling over the Brabantse Wal and Kalmthoutse Heide

Discover the cross-border nature of the Brabantse Wal and Kalmthoutse Heide. First you cycle through the woods of the Brabantse Wal to Putte: a village that is almost bisected by the Belgian-Dutch border. You pass the Fort of Brasschaat, which is part of the defense belt around Antwerp. In the 1970s the Belgian army tried to blow up this fort with dynamite: without success. You then cycle onto the Kalmthoutse Heide, a former low peat area that has been transformed over the centuries into a beautiful large heath with fens and pine forests. This is the most famous heathland of the pasture region!
