Description
Estates and country houses
The starting point of this route is at Santpoort-Noord train station. From here you will be on the estates on the edge of the dunes in no time. Take a look at the sandstone pumpkins at Park Kennemergaarde and then walk on to the Duin & Kruidberg estate. Fancy a short break with a cup of coffee or perhaps a nice meal? Then settle down in the restaurant or brasserie on the estate. A little further on you will walk through the former Brederode estate.
Brederode Castle
In the past, there was an impressive castle on the forest land of the lordship, but nowadays you will only find the ruins of Brederode. Over the centuries, the original castle from the 14th century has been destroyed, rebuilt and then largely lost again. Nevertheless, the ruins are still interesting to see. Then you walk through Santpoort-Zuid and along the Burgemeester Rijkenspark back to Santpoort-Noord.
Corn mill De Zandhaas
On the edge of Santpoort-Noord you will find a corn mill that dates back to 1779. Deviate a little from the route to view this beautiful sight that is still in operation. On the ground floor is the mill shop where various products for the home baker are for sale.
