Description
When you think of Groningen you may immediately think of quiet landscapes and wide views, but there is more to be found here. On this route around Vriescheloo, for example, you can admire no less than four beautiful castles.
Castle splendor
The starting point of this route is on the edge of Vriescheloo. This village originated a long time ago as a place of residence for everyone involved in peat reclamation in the area. Vriescheloo later grew into a ribbon village. Put on your hiking boots and get to know this village. Around the village you will find several castles. After about 3 kilometers you will walk past the first castle. This structure is still used as a home, so admire this gem from a distance. A little further on you will find three more beautiful castles that are all used as a residence. Viewing the castles from the inside is therefore not possible, but seen from the outside they are also beautiful.
Clear your head
You then walk along the edge of Veelerveen into the quiet Groningen landscape. Enjoy the peace and quiet here and clear your head. You end your tour at the point where you started walking. You will find a parking lot here where you can park your car during your walk.
