Cycling through nature near Balen

You can make a wonderful trip in the vicinity of Balen in Belgium. You drive along canals, through charming villages and special nature reserves.

Sas4 Tower
Along the leafy Canal Dessel Kwaadmechelen you can cycle your legs while looking out over the rippling water. At a unique intersection of three canals you will pass the Sas4 tower. From the 37 meter high top you have a magnificent view of the wooded area! You then cycle along the water again, this time from Canal Bocholt Herentals.

Great Netewoud
You then drive through a succession of picturesque villages and farmland. You will see old farms, churches, chapels and road crosses here. You will also experience the characteristic Belgian geniality here. Just above Meerhout you pass through the Bels Broek en Heide, a sub-area of the Grote Netewoud. You will find drifting dunes, marsh forests and heaths here. Finally, you will make beautiful kilometers on the towpath along the Dessel Kwaadmechelen Canal.
