Walking from the Duck Lake to the Reindersmeer

Around Nieuw-Bergen you can take a beautiful walk through the Maasduinen National Park. Put on your sturdy shoes for a tour with plenty of variety.

Driessenven
You will soon enter the Maasduinen. Around the Duck Lake you walk through forest and mainly heathland. You see heather and shrub heath, and sometimes a shepherd walks here with his flock. Beautiful! Further on you pass the Driessenven: this former swamp area is now an oasis of peace between forest and heath.

Heuloërbroek
Further on you will pass the Reindersmeer. This lake was created by gravel extraction. Here you have a beautiful view of the rippled water, while you walk a little higher up on the drifting sand. It is wonderfully quiet here. Ideal to clear your head and relax. The last part of the route takes you through the Heuloërbroek, a small-scale nature reserve in the Maas valley. Here you walk through a mosaic of rugged grasslands, alder forests and willow thickets.
