Train walking along the IJssel: Hanseatic cities Kampen-Zwolle

This walking route of over 21 kilometers takes you along the IJssel from Kampen to Zwolle. A beautiful walk in which nature and city are alternated.

Walking along the IJssel
The starting point of this walking route is Kampen train station, which is located on the IJssel. You walk a few kilometers along the IJssel towards Wilsum, which provides beautiful views. When you arrive in 's-Heerenbroek after about 10 kilometers, it is time for the first stop at Theehuis Zalkerveer. Take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee, tea and possibly a nice lunch. Theehuis Zalkerveer is located in the most dangerous bend in the IJssel, namely at the place where the river makes a turn of more than ninety degrees. And that provides a spectacular view from the terrace.

Hanseatic city Zwolle
The route continues along the IJssel down, a great route to walk. Along the water, enjoying the view and the peace around you. Along the way you will pass through several small villages along the IJssel, such as Spoolde and Katerveer. You will also walk straight through the Engelse Werk, a park on former fortifications. Zwolle is bordered by city walls and canals. In the late Middle Ages, Zwolle was an important Hanseatic city and you can still see that in all the beautiful buildings. During this walk you will be amazed by this beautiful city. The end point of this walk is Zwolle train station.

Vibrant Zwolle
Besides the fact that Zwolle has a rich history, you can also go to nice shops and eateries in this Hanseatic city. After the walk you have earned a nice meal! Then you can take the train back home from Zwolle station.
