From Volendam through the Beemster

Your route starts at Hotel Old Dutch - Restaurant Le Pompadour. Here you will experience the characteristic Volendam cosiness, and you will also see some beautiful old buildings. You cycle through the polder to Edam, another beautiful old town. Climb the sea wall if you want to get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the view over the Markermeer. Dik Trom's School is a museum in the former village school of writer Cornelis Kieviet. Further on you cycle through a number of beautiful villages, such as Scharwoude. You cycle over the dike along the Beemsterringvaart. You also look out over Droogmakerij de Beemster: a unique man-made landscape of grasslands, ditches and canals. UNESCO World Heritage! Middenbeemster is the oldest village in this polder, with many monumental buildings.
