Around Renswoude it is beautiful walking through the Gelderse Vallei. You will pass several forts of the Grebbe Line and Renswoude Castle.
Fort Datselaar
From Restaurant De Dennen you first walk through a forest plot. A nice start: you get into your rhythm here in peace. The Wittenoordseweg forms the border between Gelderland and Utrecht on your right. Further on you pass the former Fort Daatselaar from 1799, a beautiful spot. The leafy path you then walk on also belongs to the Grebbe Line. And again forms the border between (left) Gelderland and (right) Utrecht.
Castle Renswoude
You walk along the recently restored Gran Canal. This watercourse supplies the canals around Kasteel Renswoude with water. The castle dates back to 1350. You can take a look at the front and daydream before you walk into the castle forest. You continue walking through a wide landscape of meadows, fields, hedgerows and lowland streams. Finally, you will pass the earthen defense work Werk aan de Engelaar from 1799. Time for a terrace at Restaurant De Dennen.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
